We are all part of the Hollis community, whether you are here for an afternoon birthday party or for an extended stay at the Hideaway. While you are here, we invite you to explore our shared spaces and activities we have here on site. Our space is your space.
The Hollis Outdoor Labyrinth is a pattern which creates a sacred space. The labyrinth is an ancient tool for reflection on one's life and one spiritual journey. Walking the labyrinth is 'experiential spirituality' and symbolizes our journey ‘to and from God'.
We can provide an hour long information session on Labyrinth history and use for your group.
Find out more about the Hollis Labyrinth design and history. If you have specific questions about using the Labyrinth, please do not hesitate to contact the Hollis staff!
Our Prayer Labyrinth is part of an international registry of Labyrinths. Click here to learn about other labyrinths around the world.

The Hillside Chapel includes an altar, benches, fire ring, and a cross high in the trees. It is a fine setting for an outdoor worship service!

Access to the chapel is via the Trail system and is not ADA accessible.
Over 5 miles of marked trails offer unstructured opportunities to come face to face with nature. Listen for the sound of bluebirds near the meadow or relax and contemplate God's work in a marshy space on an observation platform. Whether hiking the hills or in the high meadow, there are many encounters with God's creation waiting to surprise you.
Disc Golf is very similar to traditional golf except instead of a ball and a hole you have discs and a basket.
The goal of disc golf is to get the disc to land in the disc catching basket. Each basket is played as a par 3 (three throws per basket). The player with the least amount of throws and lowest score is the winner. You'll find Hollis has set up 5 disc golf cages in the meadow for you to use while on site.
Disc Golf is free and discs are available to check out in the Welcome Center.
Located Next to the picnic shelter is the Little Free Library. Take a book, or share a book. Its a free book exchange. Anyone may take a book or bring a book to share.
Gaga Ball players start in a “pit”, an octagon shaped court, hitting and rolling the ball with their hand to eliminate other players. Players slap or hit the ball, aiming to hit other players at or below the knees.
The Eastern Bluebird inhabit this part of the Midwest, and Hollis is home to many. The male bluebird has dark blue on the head, back, wings and tail. The chin, breast and flanks are reddish brown with a white belly and under tail. The female has similar markings but not as bold
or as predominate as the male.
They have a soft warbling song.
You can see Eastern Bluebirds all year round at Hollis. The life spans of adult birds are 6 to 10 years. The male and female bluebirds will have two to three broods per year starting in spring though July. Each brood will consist of three to five eggs on the average. Once the eggs are hatched, the chicks will fledge their nest
within 17 - 21 days.
Until recently, the bluebirds were an endangered species. With conservation and building bluebird habitats, the bluebird population is increasing. Here at Hollis, we have several bluebird houses and last year we recorded 24 bluebird chicks fledgling their nest. This year, thanks to an Eagle project, we are doubling the number of bluebird houses and hope to have even more bluebird chicks fledge their nests.
The bluebird is the Missouri state bird.
A tax-deductible gift helps us prepare a place for all who visit Hollis. A sense of renewal for everyone will be hugely important in the coming weeks and months ahead.
